Melissa Shane



Melissa is  a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (Illinois License 180008837) and her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling, both from Bradley University. Graduating at the top of her class with academic distinction, she was awarded for  academic  excellence and outstanding leadership. Melissa also  has extensive experience teaching in higher education, corporate training, and providing therapy to children, adults and families in our community. She has worked in Peoria Public Schools, at Illinois Central College and Methodist College of Nursing. She has been employed at Children's Home, at both major addiction centers in the Peoria area as well as the Center for Prevention of Abuse. 

A community advocate, Melissa volunteers her  time offering critical incident stress de-briefing  and disaster relief to schools and organizations as needed. Melissa has also volunteered and served by helping develop a camp for terminally ill children at Wildlife Prairie Park, helping establish a food bank for students  in need and helping children who have been exposed to domestic violence or other forms of abuse. Melissa continues to serve by donating time  providing counseling to clients in need, as well as guest lecturing or speaking at different community events.



Melissa is experienced in  treating  depression, bipolar, anxiety and panic disorders in men, women, children and teens.

She is passionate about women's issues throughout all life stages. This includes:

  • helping new Moms adjust to life with baby 
  • postpartum depression and anxiety
  •  pregnancy and infant loss
  • menopause and related issues
  •  empty nest
  • coping with chronic illness or pain
  •  relationship problems
  •  infidelity/affairs
  • divorce
  •  work-life balance issues
  • struggles with raising children and caring for aging parents 
  • caregiver compassion fatigue

She is skilled in family therapy and can help with high conflict divorce, alienation and parental reunification needs.

Melissa is experienced in trauma work and uses EMDR  (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)  for trauma and PTSD, grief work,  and gender affirming care and LGBT issues.

Melissa also enjoys working with children and teens and is skilled in treating trauma, abuse, self injury (cutting), low self esteem, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety  and behavior problems.



Melissa founded Healing Hearts in October of 2017 and aspires to build a powerful and amazing team of healers and helpers.  The  goal is to provide a safe space where everyone, from all walks of life, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, spirituality and age feel welcomed and empowered.
